چکیده

Many features of the large Nc transition that occurs in the spectral density of Wilson loops as a function of loop area (observed recently in numerical simulations of Yang-Mills theory by Narayanan and Neuberger) can be captured by a simple Burgers equation used to model turbulence. Spectral shock waves that precede this asymptotic limit exhibit universal scaling with Nc, with indices that can be related to Berry indices for diffraction catastrophes.

Real-time smoke simulation with improved turbulence by spatial adaptive vorticity confinement

Turbulence modeling has recently drawn many attentions in fluid animation to generate small-scale rolling features. Being one of the widely adopted approaches, vorticity confinement method re-injects lost energy dissipation back to the flow. However, previous works suffer from deficiency when large vorticity coefficient e is used, due to the fact that constant e is applied all over the simulate...

Synthetic Controllable Turbulence Using Robust Second Vorticity Confinement

Capturing fine details of turbulence on a coarse grid is one of the main tasks in real-time fluid simulation. Existing methods for doing this have various limitations. In this paper, we propose a new turbulence method that uses a refined second vorticity confinement method, referred to as robust second vorticity confinement, and a synthesis scheme to create highly turbulent effects from coarse ...

Colored diffraction catastrophes.

On fine scales, caustics produced with white light show vividly colored diffraction fringes. For caustics described by the elementary catastrophes of singularity theory, the colors are characteristic of the type of singularity. We study the diffraction colors of the fold and cusp catastrophes. The colors can be simulated computationally as the superposition of monochromatic patterns for differe...

Decorrelation of edge plasma turbulence at the transition from low- to high-confinement mode in the DIII–D Tokamak

The modification of turbulence in the edge plasma of the DIII–D tokamak at the transition from the low to the high mode of confinement is investigated with a phase-contrast imaging diagnostic. The amplitude and radial correlation length of the turbulence in the confinement region decrease at the transition, whereas the decorrelation time increases. The transition w Ž . x model of Biglari, Diamo...

Turbulence spreading as a non-local mechanism of global confinement degradation and ion temperature profile stiffness

A new non-local mechanism of the global confinement degradation and ion temperature profile stiffness is proposed based on the results of global gyrokinetic simulations. We find that turbulence spreading into a marginally stable zone can increase turbulent transport to a level exceeding the predictions of the local theories. Also, we present the first quantification of the parametric dependence...
